Fan of Philly history and politics? Educate yourself with this excellent 2006 documentary by local filmmaker Tigre Hill, which covers the epic story of the John Street / Sam Katz 2003 mayoral race — the last race in which Philadelphia had a competitive city-wide election. Not only does this film reveal the intrigue and scandals of the race, but it also influenced the next mayoral elections and still resonates today.
The film is a gem and well worth streaming right here on Broad + Liberty. As a non-profit, we’d suggest you rent it from us if you’ve enjoyed viewing, just like you would any other great content on Netflix, Hulu or elsewhere! We suggest a donation of $5 so we can distribute this and other videos widely. Please rent Tigre Hill’s “The Shame of a City” here!
