School Director Candidate Spotlight: Dena M. Boggs — Springfield School District

The latest installment of our series of interviews with school director candidates across Pennsylvania brings us to the Springfield School District.

Dena Boggs is running for school director in region 9 of the Springfield School District, located in Delaware County. She is a registered Republican and currently employed as a home health care worker.

Why are you running for school board?

“I am running for school board hoping to provide a voice for our students as well as the parents.”

What are the most important issues facing your district?

“I believe bullying and safety are important issues facing our district.”

What is your professional background/experience? What skills would you bring to the board?

“I have a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and early childhood education. I previously served as the Operations Manager of Philly Food Rescue, a nonprofit organization. Currently, I am working as a home health care worker. The most important role in my life is parenting two wonderful children. Raising my children to be good, kind, thoughtful human beings is something I take very seriously.”

Have you run for political office previously? Have you been politically active?

“While I have not personally run for office previously, I have assisted other candidates with their campaigns by door knocking and working the polls.”

Are you running with other candidates?

“No.”

What is the most important role of the school board in your opinion?

“I believe the most important role of the school board is to be available to the students, the parents, and the administration. School board directors should listen to all sides of a situation and make decisions that lend to the best possible outcome for those involved. It is the board’s job to make sure the students feel safe, heard, and valued.”

We contacted the Democratic and Republican committees in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Lancaster, Lehigh, and Montgomery counties and asked them to share the questions with their school director candidates. Broad + Liberty will post the responses throughout the summer to assist voters in learning about the candidates running in their district. The series is open to any school director on the ballot in November. Please contact barosica@s46680.p831.sites.pressdns.com for more information.
