And we’re back with Broad + Liberty’s Candidate Spotlight Series! Each week, we reach out to candidates all across the Commonwealth up for election to public office — an equal number of Democrats and Republicans; incumbents and challengers. We ask one question per week about public policy pressing to you. Those who choose to respond will have their answers shared on our website every Wednesday through Sunday.

Earlier this week, we featured responses from our nominees for U.S. Senator, U.S. Congress and General Assembly. Today, Pennsylvania’s nominees for Governor weigh in to discuss inflation.

If you are a candidate for public office in Pennsylvania and would like to participate, please reach out to lsattler@broadandliberty.com.

This week’s question: The cost of gas and groceries have risen significantly for PA families. What are your specific plans to lower these prices? Will you encourage our state’s energy production to lower the cost of shipment for products on which our economy depends?

Josh Shapiro (D)

I have traveled all across the Commonwealth, I’ve listened to Pennsylvanians in all 67 counties, and I know they are struggling with higher costs. That’s why I have a plan as Governor to lower costs, cut taxes, boost our economy, and help our working families and children succeed.

I want to put money back into Pennsylvanians’ pockets by sending every Pennsylvanian a $250 gas tax refund, eliminating the state cell phone tax, and expanding the Property Tax and Rent Rebate Program — providing direct relief to so many families who are struggling right now.

I will also boost the economy and attract new businesses to Pennsylvania by lowering the corporate net income tax, cutting useless bureaucratic red tape, bolstering our manufacturing and spurring innovation, streamlining the permitting process, increasing investments in vo-tech so our students have ample opportunities to succeed, and embracing Pennsylvania’s position as an energy leader.

As Governor, I will make it clear that Pennsylvania is open for business and work every day to ensure that working families are supported and able to thrive in our Commonwealth.

Come back later to read the response from Shapiro’s running mate, Austin Davis.

Doug Mastriano (R)

The Mastriano campaign chose not to respond.

Come back later to read the response from Mastriano’s running mate, Carrie Lewis DelRosso.
