Eric Tuwalski: The effects of one-party rule

Los Angeles has been the epicenter of anarchy. Hopefully, it will not spread to other cities, including ours.

The Immigration Customs Enforcement Agency (ICE) is working to identify, locate, and deport those who illegally entered the United States. California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass have been outspoken in protecting those who have illegally entered our United States calling out President Donald Trump as the instigator on this matter, emboldening people to act in a violent manner on the streets of L.A.

Both Newsom, Bass, and their fellow Democrats are angry over Trump nationalizing the California National Guard and for sending in 700 United States Marines for additional support to help defuse the excess anarchy and violence in the city.

I feel these two elected officials need to take a lesson in school on our United States Constitution when it comes to providing for the common defense. This powerful statement clearly explained in our Preamble of the United States Constitution is under assault by these same elected officials who took an oath to uphold the laws to protect us citizens.

Throughout our recent history, Los Angeles has seen much anarchy in the form of individuals masterfully planning to disrupt and endanger the peace. The Watts riots during the 1960s. The Rodney King verdict of 1992 when then President George H.W. Bush also gave the authorization to send in U.S. Marines to help defuse the violence. Finally, the verdict of the OJ Simpson Trial shortly thereafter in 1995. These events spurred outrage and anarchy spilling over to the conscientious law-abiding citizens in a one-party Democratic-run major city in the United States.

Here in the Philadelphia region, I see the same one-party Democratic machine similar to that set up in Los Angeles.

I see the same ideology and rules apply in large city municipal management.  I question how differently would Governor Josh Shapiro or Mayor Cherelle Parker react if we had a similar scenario play out all over Philadelphia? The operation of ICE officials doing their constitutional duty by order of the Executive Branch of our government, carrying out their job removing people illegally here in our region.

Would we see the same media here colluding with the Democratic machine? The same media not asking the adult questions of why people illegally entering our nation does more harm to the law-abiding citizens? I imagine Governor Shapiro standing at the podium stating we are witnessing peaceful protest is the cornerstone of our Democracy no need for additional militarization of armed forces. Mayor Parker behind Governor Shapiro in lock-step. We have individuals illegally here hating our nation courtesy of the previous Biden Administration allowing people to cross into our sovereign nation. Would the Philadelphia Police Department and Pennsylvania National Guard be welcomed to perform their duties by protecting the innocent law-abiding citizens?

The one-party system is in full effect here in our region.

As is typical of one-party rule, the idea of diversity in thought and diplomatic debate does not apply in our major cities. One student asked me what examples of one-party rule we could be aware of? I answered the student in class by stating we do not have to look far down the road to Philadelphia or even some of our local township governments.  We have no diversity in thought, only new people dressed up following the same policies.

I am quite certain Mayor Parker’s handling of anarchy and I am calling it anarchy would be no different from the previous administrations going back to Rendell, Street, Nutter, or Kenney. Governor Shapiro would offer the same tone-deaf response to anarchy in Philadelphia as would former Governor Wolf. All of the Democrats are in lock-step, One Party, One Voice, and Our Way Only.

This is not a good recipe for handling a crisis in our region. All I see are grown adults finger pointing and not holding themselves accountable for their actions in preparing to end actions of violence and anarchy. How many local businesses have to be destroyed in order to figure out the situation? I never hear about the victims of the violence escalating on the streets.

Many of these businesses in Philadelphia cannot recover their losses and will have to close business.  How does this help our economy when we do not establish law and order?

We just had socialist Senator Bernie Sanders stand on his Socialist Soap Box offering Marxist rhetoric similar in fashion to the French Revolution celebrating May Day in front of Philadelphia City Hall. The Democratic Party historically calls for this rhetoric in the name of democracy. Pure democracy means mob rule — the majority having their way with laws and policies, whereas the minority are not represented and have to stomach the actions of the majority. I see this aligned with the current state of our major cities like Philadelphia ready to spew violent rhetoric and start the looting and burning of people’s property.

Democracy in this case aligns with the revolutions calling for doing away with our constitutional republic. The one-party rule in major cities aligns with the violence and anarchy bestowing on our major cities and even here in Philadelphia. On the one side, there are the ideas from our Declaration of Independence and Constitution in the form of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness — the embodiment of our republic where all voices are heard and peace is ensured by promoting law and order. On the other, violence and anarchy in the name of democracy, set to destroy the foundation of our great nation.

Which will our local Democrats choose?
